Florence, Ky. — (Oct. 17, 2023) Jane Herms, MSW, President/CEO of Family Nurturing Center, has been named the Horizon Nonprofit Awards 2023 Executive of the Year among large nonprofits. She received one of six awards presented during Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky’s Philanthropy Symposium.

Since becoming executive director in 1995 and then president/CEO, Jane has grown Family Nurturing Center from a small call center overtop a restaurant to an agency serving individuals and families in both Kentucky and Ohio. In the nearly 30 years Jane has led the agency, it’s grown from a staff of five to 80 employees. The annual budget has increased from $300,000 to $5 million.

“Jane possesses an unwavering commitment to Family Nurturing Center’s mission of ending the cycle of child abuse by promoting individual well-being and healthy families,” said Brittany Bischoff, President of the Family Nurturing Center Board of Directors. “Jane’s always asking board members and staff, ‘What else can we do for our program participants and the community?’ Through her leadership, we’ve expanded our services and provide counseling and education to more than 12,000 individuals annually.”

The agency provides free, high-quality programs and services that engage and educate families as well as those that focus on the totality of individuals. Family Nurturing Center provides:

  • Education and Training Services: Group-based education focusing on community.
  • Counseling Services: Hope and healing for children and adults who’ve experienced childhood trauma.
  • Parenting Time Visitation Services: Safe interactions between children and their parents or other caregivers referred by Hamilton County Jobs and Family Services.
  • Parenting Services: Parenting support to help children and parents thrive.
  • Holistic and Wellness Services: Non-traditional services to help participants heal from trauma and live their best lives.

“I’m proud of all of our services and the impact they have on children and families,” Jane said. “The growth we’ve seen in both Kentucky and Ohio means that more people can receive our vital services.  Our counseling program is one example. We went from having a part-time psycho-education type of counseling to five full-time, master’s degree level clinicians who provide counseling services that are evidence-based, trauma-informed and specialized.”
