A Northern Kentucky nonprofit that serves children and families affected by abuse and trauma is preparing to expand after securing $2.5 million in state funding for a new facility.

To tackle child abuse, Kentucky advocates focus on prevention, not just intervention

Florence, Ky. — (April 1, 2026) Despite some progress, Kentucky’s child mistreatment rate is still nearly double the national average.

About 14 out of every 1,000 children were abused in Kentucky in 2024, according to the most recent report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Though the individual number of cases has decreased by about 13% since 2020, advocates are urging for more preventive measures. TO LISTEN TO PODCAST

Family Nurturing Center begins National Child Abuse Prevention Month with event at Tom Gill Chevrolet

Florence, Ky. — (March 26, 2026) On Wednesday, the Family Nurturing Center launched National Child Abuse Prevention Month with a Blue Ribbon Ceremony hosted by Tom Gill at Tom Gill Chevrolet in Florence.

The blue ribbon is a symbol for child abuse prevention. In 1989, a Virginia grandmother tied a blue ribbon to her car antenna to honor her grandson, who lost his life at the hands of his parents. It has since become an internationally recognized symbol for child abuse prevention. Attendees at Wednesday’s event were given blue ribbons to display during the month of April. READ MORE

“We’re moving from our home of seven years — 5 Spiral Drive in Florence – to 380 Centre View Boulevard in Crestview Hills,” Jane Herms, president and CEO of the Center told the Northern Kentucky Tribune, during an abbreviated walk-through the new facility the other day. “We have 12,000-square feet in Crestview Hills now, and when we’re finally moved in, we’ll have 18,000.” READ MORE
